There are very few cities where you can get Jamaican fried dumplings for breakfast, tasty shawarma for lunch, and have Korean BBQ for dinner. There are even fewer cities where you can find all these cultures within the same neighbourhood. Toronto is Canada's largest city but also one of the most multicultural cities in the world. The city is a spoil of culture and has diversity bursting at the seams. There are numerous museums, a vast amount of park spaces and as mentioned, a lot of delicious cuisines. Toronto is a great city, and if we're being honest, some neighbourhoods stand out from the rest. One of those neighbourhoods is the Junction. The Junction has quickly established itself as the cool kid when it comes to Toronto neighbourhoods. The community is a foundation of history with brick houses but has a contemporary flair with lush park spaces and eccentric art made by local talents. If you are looking to eat, drink, shop, or explore, the Junction is the place to be.
Satisfy Your Taste Buds
There's an old saying that says, "the way to a person's heart is through their stomach.” At least, that's how we think it goes. The Junction is the place to get some good food. We can make an entire blog writing about the restaurants and pubs in the Junction. Instead, we'll highlight a few and leave to explore yourself. One restaurant with delicious meals is Botham's. The restaurant is owned by brothers who also own the famous Hole in the Wall restaurant. Botham's is unique because the space originally was an antique store. Now it has been transformed into a restaurant that blends old fashion with luxury. Try some simple foods like pizza made from the wood-burning oven, or treat yourself to short ribs paired with kale, chilli and mushrooms.
If fresh foods are more your style, then the Junction farmer’s market has exactly what you need. Support local farmers and purchase fresh locally grown produce.
Grab a Drink
For those that like to indulge in an adult beverage or two, the Junction is right for you. One spot to highlight is the Gaslight, which boasts a large variety of cocktails, wines and beers. There's also 3030 Dundas West. They claim to "like a beer a lot." They support local craft brewers and have 16 taps dedicated to selling Ontario Craft Beers. 3030 Dundas West carries unique and rare brews that most places don't have.
Are you a fan of cheeky t-shirts? How about cool furniture? Perhaps you like handcrafted items? The point is the Junction has everything you need when it comes to shopping. One particular store of interest is Simply Beautiful. This store began as a small store off-the-beaten-path on Dundas St. West to now being a popular shop in the neighbourhood. The storefront has rejuvenated a historic building into an awe-inspiring shop that focuses on Canadian-made products. It is simply a store where you can find clothes, bath & body products, quilts, mugs, and so much more.
It takes some time to visit Junction and experience all the neighbourhood offers if you are looking for a place to live, include this neighbourhood on your list of potential spots.
